In the Law on Protected Areas, published in M.O. no. 152 of 12 April 2000 at position 2600 Lilac Forest Ponoarele is mentioned, with an area of 20 ha. This is a botanical preserve and has an unique character both through the flora and the fauna species.

     To reach the forest on foot you can leave from the school, in the center of the village, on Mills Valley following the river and then climbing up the Great Dos to Prislop Valley, a marked tourist trail. In this route it can be admired Crăcuceni mill and the church under Stei. You can also travel by car, starting from the center of the village, along the cultural center, crossing Tihoi hamlet and then going towards Delureni.

The influence of sub-Mediterranean climate favored the development of a specific flora: lilac, ash, Turkish cherry, manna ash, hawthorn, hornbeam and the much admired black tulip. Also the fauna has some rare species protected by law: viper, scorpion and the turtle.

     The forest can be admired in the fullness of its beauty, especially in early May, when it becomes a real carpet of lilac and ash flowers, an enticing fragrance.

     In that period takes place the feast of the lilac, a folkloric manifestation of national interest, within the natural amphitheater of the Prislop valley, when renowned groups and soloists challenge each other. This event attracts a large number of tourists from across the country.
