The official name is the Church of the Holy Martyr Panteleimon and St. Nicholas. But after its location is known as the Little Church in Stei, because right under Stei Ponorii.

     Stei Ponorii is a steep and barren coast which guards village in the south showing that there was a rift and land crashed over some unseen galleries. At the foot of the Falcon Cave Stei is where it is said that people were coming down once to catch this bird used in falconry.

    Here is Cave of Elijah thief, which are linked to outlaw legends and treasures. Underlying Stei was once the center of the village as shown in his sketch monographic Sophrony Delurinţu. The only evidence is the church of oak in front of it and now I see some stones covered with earth that marked the crosses in the cemetery of old.

     The church looks a little wooden houses with porch supported by four pillars that were bent as if under the weight of time.

      On the pillar to the right of the church entrance is carved in wood a date which may be lifting the church as scientists say.

Icon of St. John the Baptist and two reasons: the sun and moon on the iconostasis reinforce the idea of building seniority which legend says that it was built by monk Nicodemus, who chased people here and so came to Tismana.
