‘The Needle and the Thread’ workshop is situated 5 kilometres from Baia de Aramă town, in Cracul Muntelui village, part of bigger village, Ponoarele. It was born from Oana Pîrvan’s great
passion for Romanian folklore art. She started this business in 2010 at a turning point in her life. Passionate about tradition and folklore, Oana wants to inspire the joy of returning to
tradition to all Romanians, especially to the young. She wants to see them wearing proudly clothing items with popular motifs. She is convinced that the traditional Romanian blouse
called ‘ie’ can never be out of fashion and this is the reason why she will continue to sew and embroider such pieces of clothing as well as to discover diverse motifs from different areas
of Romania. Oana herself wears, almost all the time, an ‘ie’ sewed and embroidered by her own hands or a handbag woven in her workshop. Oana Pîrvan, who is a great lover of the
Romanian folklore and traditional clothing, carries on the culture and ethnographic heritage she received from her mother and her grandmother.
‘I wish from the bottom of my heart that I would do the same thing all my life, meaning to sew, embroider and weave in my own village and to manage to persuade not 20 people
but all the inhabitants of my village to create traditional clothing items. This is the tradition I was raised in and I would like my daughter to carry on my work’, says Oana Pîrvan enthusiastically.
We invite you to admire some popular traditional creations made with care and dedication in ‘The Needle and the Thread’ workshop.
